DARE (Devon Association for Renewable Energy) was commissioned by the Diocese of Exeter to carry out site assessments of three C of E schools - St. Marychurch (Torquay), Payhembury (East Devon) and St. Budeaux (Plymouth), to assess the potential for installing renewable energy systems to generate electricity and heat and advising on how to maximise the energy efficiency of the building.
Reports have since been produced for each school to advise the governors to take action in moving towards a more energy efficient school.
This is now being followed up with school Eco days to develop greater pupil engagement – including pupil led energy audits, forming an Eco group, helping schools get started with the Eco Schools programme, Switch Off Fortnight/The Carbon Fast and Atlas Carbon Foot-printing.
