There has been a dramatic decline in bee populations which is the result of multiple factors such as loss of habitat, diseases and parasites, climate change and wider industrial agricultural practices.
Churchyards are a haven for all types of bees: bumble bees, solitary bees and honey bees, and giving a new twist to the Biblical phrase ‘land of milk and honey’, some churches are now establishing beehives in their churchyards.
