How green is your church? event

‘How Green is your Church?’ took place at Southdown Methodist Church, Bath (holder of a Bronze EcoChurch award), with 73 people representing 40 different churches and six denominations.

The day included talks from biodiversity expert Dr Simon Stuart and environmental theologian Revd Kevin Durrant, two people who shared their own church’s ‘EcoChurch’ journey, and five workshops discussing practical ways to improve the environment locally and globally.

Local MP Wera Hobhouse attended for part of the day, and joined in a Q&A session with Simon and Kevin. Their discussion covered a heady mix of theology, science and politics, and the questions demonstrated to Wera how many people are concerned about climate change and local environmental issues.

With stands and information from the RSPB, A Rocha, EcoChurch, Green Christian, Climate Stewards, and lots of networking opportunities, delegates left encouraged to work with others in their own churches and communities on practical steps to care for creation, and to make progress on their EcoChurch journey.

Two similar conferences are planned for Taunton on 13th October and Wells on 9th February 2019. For further details contact caroline.pomeroy@bathwells.anglican.org.
