Practical steps to help your church take care of God’s creation

We know that the natural world faces multiple challenges, locally and globally from climate change, biodiversity loss, plastics, pollution …. and more. The bible tells us that ‘The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it’ and that we are called to be good stewards. Increasing numbers of churches of all denominations are getting involved in making that a reality. The Diocese of Bath and Wells wants to encourage this, and help churches start on the journey towards becoming an Eco Church.

This day conference is one of a series organised across Somerset during 2018 and 2019. Each day has a local flavour and is organised jointly with other denominations. The aim is to inspire, encourage and equip Christians to embed ‘creation care’ in the life of their church, community and individual members. Each conference has speakers covering theology and science, talks from people who have helped their churches become an Eco Church, and workshops on lifestyle, community and global engagement, caring for church land, greening your church buildings, and teaching and worship.

We already have some excellent speakers lined up. Rev Kevin Durrant, Baptist Pastor and author of ‘The Earth Will Teach You’ will speak on what the bible says about caring for the environment; and Professor Chris King, an earth scientist, will talk about the state of the planet today.
